In 2004, her performances in Hum Tum and Yuva earned her the Best Actress and the Best Supporting Actress awards at Filmfare, making her the first actress to win those two major awards in the same year.

She went on to sweep all the major awards in 2005 for her work in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black. Mukherji is considered to be one of the top most leading actors in Bollywood today.
