Saif Ali Khan is the son of the Nawab of Pataudi, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, and the actress Sharmila Tagore. He is also the older brother to actress Soha Ali Khan.

He made his debut in 1992 in Yash Chopra's Parampara. In 1994 Khan starred in two hit films Main Khiladi Tu Anari and Yeh Dillagi. After ten years of starring in unsuccessful films, Khan rose into prominence with his performance in Dil Chahta Hai (2001) and has starred in several hit films since then.

He married actress Amrita Singh in October 1991 who was twelve years older than him. After thirteen years of marriage and two children, the couple divorced in 2004. Khan is currently dating actress Kareena Kapoor.
