Cine star and Congress MP from Mumbai (North) Govinda Ahuja has reportedly been receiving threatening calls from anti-social elements over the last two months. On Monday, he claimed that the threatening calls to his Juhu residence were from within the city. Thereby hinting that the threats were not from Dubai, where several Gangsters are still holed up.

Now Govinda has written a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, sending a copy to chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Reportedly, he has specified in the letter that a rival within Bollywood has been responsible for the calls. Govinda has also stated in the letter that his children are also being followed to school by someone.

"They have also threatened to bump off my wife and children in a road accident. Somebody is jealous of my returning to films. Please help me,” he has stated.

Sources at the Police crime branch said the actor had informed the police regarding the situation, but no formal complaint had been lodged.

Deputy chief minister R R Patil said: "The CM forwarded the letter to me and I have given it to police commissioner A N Roy."

Joint commissioner (law and order) Arup Patnaik said: "Govinda has not lodged a formal complaint with us so far."

The ruling Congress has been embarrassed by Govinda's open allegation of threat calls. "His statement gives the impression that even an MP is not safe in a Congress-ruled state," said a Congress activist.

Govinda said in a press release issued on Monday, "I am thankful to the media for taking up this issue, but till now I have not mentioned the names of the callers. I will name them and file a proper complaint only after talking to senior Congress leaders. But the people who are after me and my family members are based in Mumbai."
