The stars of Krrish will be the celebrity performers at the inaugural ceremony 23 November. The theme of the festival's opening event has been set as 'Diversity of Indian cinema', with an increased focus being on bringing regional film participation to the fore.

In addition to Harbhajan Mann and Daler Mehndi from the Punjabi film industry and Manoj Tiwari (Bhojpuri).

The chief guest will be Shashi Kapoor at the inaugural ceremony and Aparna Sen will be the guest of honour on the closing day 3 December 3.

An additional special guest on the list is Sir Richard Attenborough, whose film Gandhi is part of a special segment of films on Mahatma Gandhi, marking the centenary of the Satyagraha movement.

Tributes will be paid to SD Burman, Prithviraj Kapoor, Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Satyajit Ray and the retrospective programmes include films of Javier Bardem, G Aravindan, Rolf De Heer.

Apart from screenings on the beach, several music concerts have also been lined up, including a tribute to RD Burman called Salaam Boss, a Konkani musical concert, a performance by Sonu Nigam and pop band Boney M's show at the Kala Academy.
