Critics Update: 'Yuvraaj' (D+) Sinks, 'Dostana' (B) and 'Dasvidaniya' (B) Rise
By Raj Giri | November 21, 2008
Subhash Ghai finds himself at a crossroad. He has not had a critically acclaimed film this decade, and the trend continues with Yuvraaj. The film had everything going for it. It had an all star cast featuring Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Zayed Khan and Boman Irani. It had excellent music and had the distinction of being the best rated soundtrack of the year and the only soundtrack being able to garner a solid A since we started tracking music ratings in late 2006 (for the top soundtracks of 2008 - and previous years - click here). However, the film has been the complete opposite.

Yuvraaj is currently sitting at a 'D+' which is worse than Ghai's last two films, Black & White (C-, 48%) and Kisna (C-, 49%). With 22 reviews counted for the film's grade (click here to see how we determine which reviews count for a film's grade), the film has 6 positive reviews, 3 average reviews and the remaining 13 have been negative. Of course more reviews for the film will be coming in over the next several days, so the grade may go up or down, so stay glued to AllBollywood.com. For all news and reviews for Yuvraaj, click here.

On the flip side, both of last week's releases saw their scores improve slightly. Dostana saw it's grade improve from a 'B-' last weekend with a score of 58% to a 60% this week, giving it a solid 'B'. With 46 total reviews now in for the film, 32 have been positive, 5 have been average and 8 have been negative. The film has been a hit with both audiences and critics. For all news and reviews for Dostana, click here.

Also rising was Dasvidaniya, which went from a B- last weekend to a B this weekend. Like with Dostana, it is at a B with a 60%. Of the 17 reviews we have for the film, 12 have been positive, 2 average and the remaning 3 were negative. For all news and reviews for Dasvidaniya, click here.

Dasvidaniya and Dostana also find themselves in a dead heat with Tahaan (that's Tahaan, not Tashan) and Singh Is Kinng to get the #13 spot of the best reviewed films of 2008 (for the entire list, click here). All four films are at a 'B' with 60%.

That's about it for this update. Keep checking back over the weekend as more reviews for Yuvraaj come in.
