Dhoom Stars Dance To Uday Chopra's Tunes
By Krishna Jewel | November 09, 2006
Dhoom Stars Dance To Uday Chopra's TunesRio: We think nothing off it when our stars dance to the music and tunes of our top musicians and lyricists. However, it was Uday Chopra who made Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan dance to his tunes, literally, during Sanjay Gandhvi's Dhoom 2 shoot at a Carnival in Rio.

While shooting the climax song, everyone – including some the main stars of the film - Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Bipasha Basu - were exhausted after a continuous a month long shoot.

"It was a night sequence on the streets of Rio with several dancers and junior artistes involved. It was 2 am and all the actors were extremely tired. They were just sitting around glumly, waiting for the lights to be set up for the next shot," says Uday.

That's when Uday got an idea that would liven up the scene. "I plugged in my Ipod to the speakers and just blasted the song 'Kajra re'. What followed was unbelievable. Each and every person got up almost automatically and began dancing. In fact, Abhishek and Ash actually perform the entire track. They both went on to the stage and we had the entire Rio crowd dancing and clapping for us for putting up this impromptu show. Obviously people in Rio are driven by music and dance," says Uday.

It's a well-known fact that Uday, Abhishek and Hrithik are childhood friends; has the equation changed over the years? "They are two of my closest friends and our equation is still the same. We always have a great time when together. On the sets of Dhoom 2, we were either working or having fun, there was no third emotion involved during the entire shoot of this film," he laughs.

Uday was in disbelief at being asked how the experience of working with two of the hottest women from on the screen - Aishwarya and Bipasha Basu was. "This has to be a rhetorical question cause naturally working with these two women can't be anything but mind-blowing!" he says. "Both are amazing women and working with them is super. As for the scenes, I had more work with Bipasha than Aishwarya."

He plays the role of a cop this time out in Dhoom 2. Was it easy to play the role again after three years? "Ali is like the North Star - a constant, no matter what situation he is in - that is one of the great things about this character," he explains.

Uday didn't want to work too much on the character. "Ali is a character that doesn't really change; he is the same innocent, funny, smart kind of person, no matter where he goes. As for the mannerisms, I intentionally didn't want to change anything because it had worked so well the last time. But we did try and change the look of the character this time. Instead of sporting long hair, I cut it short, but retained the bandanna," he says.
